BINN – The Maine Bias Incident Notification Network

Current Calls to Action click here.

With the rise in the number of bias incidents throughout the state and country, there is a clear need for a communications network that will raise awareness in our community. We invite you to join our Maine-focused network for learning about incidents of bias in our state.

The Maine Bias Incident Notification Network, BINN, is a communication hub hosted by the HHRC to share in a timely fashion information about bias incidents around Maine. Through this network we hope to promote opportunities for compassionate response, and to help others meet goals embodied in our mission: to combat prejudice and discrimination in Maine and beyond; to encourage individuals and communities to reflect and act upon their ethical and moral responsibilities in our modern world.

  • Alert citizens about publicly verified bias incidents against Maine people and property
  • Promote individual, organizational and and community response
  • Share those actions and outcomes with the Network

We encourage human rights, law enforcement and justice-related individuals and organizations, as well as businesses and others for whom these issues resonate, to join BINN. This is a notification network, and there is no fee to join, though donations to the HHRC are gratefully accepted.  We encourage members to share BINN notifications through their mailing lists and other communication channels.

BINN members will receive email notification of publicly verified bias incidents. Community responses and opportunities to participate in these responses will be posted on the HHRC’s Facebook page ( ) and on our website ( ). It is our belief that statewide awareness of bias incidents will provide opportunities for Maine people to reflect and act through public involvement and peaceful collective action to protect the dignity and human rights of all our citizens.
