Teachable Moments Project

Teachable Moments Project

The Teachable Moments Project (TMP) seeks to promote a just society both by responding quickly and thoughtfully to bias incidents in our state and by proactively building an egalitarian community through creative programs at the HHRC. Incidents of ignorance, bias, or hate are unfortunate, but they also are opportunities — “teachable moments” — when the HHRC can stand up to educate the community about the values that we hold dear: tolerance, respect, justice, equality. “When such incidents occur, we will respond swiftly and publicly,” says TMP chair Chris Myers Asch, “but with the spirit of a teacher seeking to share and enlighten, rather than an adversary seeking to conquer.” The TMP also seeks to prevent future incidents by fostering meaningful connections among people in our community by bringing them together at the HHRC.

If you would like more information about the TMP, or would like to be added to the listserv for updates on incidents and responses, please contact the HHRC by email.
